First thing is ASUS EEE SLATE first: when looking for a windows laptop, guys, don't look for experience. You should be looking for features, because the experience is the same everywhere you go: same dumb windows OS, same bloated crapware installed by the manufacturer because some company paid them. This laptop has a horrid out of the box experience (but, seriously, you weren't expected it to FEEL like a iPad, were you?). It has good hardware, so I think it's worth it.
Pros: Features. It does what the iPad would need to be useful. Keyboard and stylus work well. Sometimes the touch screen is a little unresponsive, but it works.
Another big advantage for me was Ubuntu support. I'm a linux man, so I was super happy to see this:[...]
Cons: Windows 7 is not made for the touch interface. A lot of the buttons are too small and the on screen keyboard is HORRIBLE. Don't expect to be using this like an iPad for extended periods of time.
You should add an extra GiB of RAM if you want performance.
And you will also need to uninstall a ton of weird freeware and demos and other crap. Seriously... this laptop came with a 60 minute trail of Chicken Attack.
The Starter Edition of Windows is limited; but it works, so I haven't updated it. The quick linux OS that ASUS put on the motherboard is fast; but really weird...
Basically, ASUS is a hardwareASUS EEE SLATE company. And if you're willing to mess around with the software until it works, this laptop will serve you well.
